QUESTION:
A question from a brother:
” When we are doing silent dhikr of heart according to sayyidis teachings do we need for to activate the spirtual heart do we need to follow the rhythm of heart beats with the dhikr do we need to match physical heart beat with allah dhikr a Naqsbandi centre India said this but I ain’t able to find these teaching anywhere. but when i was doing my dhikr i felt energy sensations on the chest and didn’t feel my heart beat.” JazakAllah khair.
ANSWER:
In the chains (silsilah – spiritual orders) of Tareeqat (spiritual path), the Dhikr (remembrance) of Allah is taught in a specific manner, in which the one performing Dhikr is made to focus their attention towards their heart (qalb – spiritual heart), and its purpose is that their heart becomes detached from the world and becomes engaged in the remembrance of Allah Pak.
For this, initially the Saalik (traveller on the path of Wilayah – sainthood) is instructed to connect the Dhikr of Allah with the heartbeat, so that it becomes easier for them to keep their attention focused towards the heart; however, this method is not the actual objective.
And if during this a person feels some tranquility in the heart, then although this is a sign of acquiring spirituality (ruhaniyyat – spirituality), it is not the destination.
Rather, the actual objective and destination is only that the Saalik’s heart becomes fully engaged in the remembrance of Allah.
Therefore, there is no Shari‘ (shar‘i – Islamic legal) prohibition in performing Dhikr in the manner mentioned in the question, and doing Dhikr in this way is permissible (jaiz – allowed) and a means of reward (sawab – reward).
