QUESTION:
Salaam, can aqiqah be a share of a Qurbani animal?
ANSWER:
Placing a share of Aqiqah in a Qurbani animal is Jaiz (Permissible); there is no problem in this. However, regarding the allocation of shares, what is preferable is that for the Aqiqah of a boy two shares be allocated, and for the Aqiqah of a girl one share be allocated. If someone allocated even one share for the Aqiqah of a boy, then even in that case there is no problem. Likewise, dividing the meat of Aqiqah, just like Qurbani, into three parts is Mustahab (Recommended). The parents of the child, the grandparents (both paternal and maternal), and both rich and poor — all may eat from it.
In Hashiyah at-Taḥṭawi it is stated:
”و لو ارادوا القربۃ الاضحیۃ او غیرھا من القرب اجزأھم سواء کانت القربۃ واجبۃ او تطوعا او وجب علی البعض دون البعض و سواء اتفقت جھۃ القربۃ او اختلفت ۔۔۔ کذلک ان اراد بعضھم العقیقۃ عن ولد ولد لہ من قبلہ“
(Hashiyah at-Taḥṭawi ‘ala ad-Durr al-Mukhtar, Kitab al-Udhiyyah, volume 4, page 166, published Quetta)
Sayyidi A‘la Hadrat Imam Ahl-e-Sunnat Mawlana ash-Shah Imam Ahmad Raza Khan علیہ رحمۃ الرحمٰن states in Fatawa Ridawiyyah:
“Aqiqah meat may also be eaten by the parents and grandparents. Like Qurbani, dividing it into three parts is also Mustahab (Recommended).”
