[Q 637] Wearing Scarves During Ihram

QUESTION:

Is it permissible for men to wear these kind of scarfs around their neck in the state of ihraam even if the scarf is not stitched?

ANSWER:

In the state of Ihram, it is not necessary for a man to keep the neck, throat, and shoulder area uncovered. Therefore, such scarves may be used as an identification mark for a group. However, using it in the manner of tying a knot is Makruh (disliked), and it is also necessary to ensure that these scarves are not stitched. It should also be ensured that the face does not become covered because of it, even unintentionally due to wind or other reasons.
