Two individuals cannot share a sheep or a goat for Qurbani. The sacrifice of a small animal (such as a sheep or a goat) can only be on behalf of one person.

In Mirqat Sharh Mishkat, it is stated:

“الغنم الواحد لا يكفي عن اثنين فصاعدا”

“One sheep does not suffice for two or more individuals.”

(Mirqat al-Mafatih, Volume 3, Page 561)

In Binaya Sharh Hidaya, it is stated:

“و اعلم ان الشاة لا تجزئ الا عن واحد و قد روي عن ابن عمر رضي الله عنه انه قال الشاة عن واحد”

“Know that a sheep is only sufficient for one person. It has been narrated from Ibn Umar (رضي الله عنه) that he said: A sheep is only valid on behalf of one person.”

(Al-Binaya ma’ Al-Hidaya, Volume 14, Page 353)
