QUESTION:
Please forgive my lack of adab in advance.
If one was to feel sexually excited, later went to the toilet and urinated, and sperm exited after urinating (nothing exited before urinating), is ghusl required or just wudhu?
ANSWER:
In the mentioned situation, the drops that exit are madhi (madhi – pre-seminal fluid), and ghusl (ritual bath) is not required due to the release of madhi; only wudhu (ablution) becomes necessary.
As it is stated that the emission of madhi does not make ghusl Fard (obligatory).
As mentioned in Fatawa Shami:
لا يفرض الغسل عند خروج مذي
Translation: “Ghusl is not obligatory upon the discharge of madhi.”
(Radd al-Muhtar ‘ala al-Durr al-Mukhtar, Kitab al-Taharah, Vol. 1, p. 335, Quetta Edition)
Regarding the impurity of madhi, it is stated in Bahar-e-Shariat:
“Anything that exits from a human body due to which ghusl or wudhu becomes obligatory is najāsat-e-ghalīzah (major impurity), such as excrement, urine, flowing blood, pus, vomit that fills the mouth, menstrual blood, postnatal bleeding, istihādah (irregular bleeding), mani (mani – semen), madhi (madhi – pre-seminal fluid), and **wadi (wadi – thick discharge after urination).”
(Bahar-e-Shariat, Vol. 1, p. 390, Maktaba-tul-Madina, Karachi)
