QUESTION:
Mufti saab what’s the Hukm on AI generated content. Specially in terms of women.
If a female image or voice is generated using AI will the same ruling apply that you can’t look at it or listen to it?
ANSWER:
Viewing an AI-generated image is not exactly like looking at a real woman. However, if the image is فحش (fahash – indecent/obscene), then it is not permissible to look at it. Similarly, if it closely resembles a real image and depicts بے پردگی (be-pardagi – immodesty/unveiling), then it should also be avoided, because it can lead to distraction of the heart and mind, and one may become habituated to it, which can lead towards بے حیائی (be-hayai – immodesty). As a result, a person may lose modesty in looking at women and stop exercising caution, whereas the Shari‘ah aims to protect Muslims from all such matters.
As for the voice, if it is simple and contains information about something, then it is permissible to listen to it, as long as there is no other شرعی ممانعت (shar‘i mumani‘at – Islamic prohibition).
