[Q 613] Do Injuries Remove Sins?

QUESTION:

If one injures his left hand on numerous occasions, is there anything hadith or teaching where it decreases the bad deeds from that hand

ANSWER:

We have not found such specific wording in the Ahadith (Ahadith – sayings of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآلہ وسلم) that when a particular limb suffers a hardship, only the sins of that specific limb are forgiven. However, there are Ahadith regarding this matter which state that whatever hardship, grief, or pain befalls a Muslim—even to the extent of a thorn pricking the foot—Allah Tabarak wa Ta‘ala forgives his sins in return. In one Hadith, it is also mentioned that his درجات (darajaat – ranks) are raised as well. Therefore, in this general sense, it can be said that if a person’s left hand is repeatedly afflicted with pain, then due to that, his sins are forgiven.

It is mentioned in Sahih Muslim:

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith no. 2572)

It is mentioned in Sahih al-Bukhari:

(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith no. 5641)
