QUESTION:
A sister performed an extra (nafl) tawaf after completing her Umrah, but she wasn’t in wudu at that time. Now that she has returned home, what should she do?
ANSWER:
Just like any other tawaf, if a nafl tawaf is performed without wudu, sadaqah al-Fitr becomes necessary. Therefore, according to the situation described, the Islamic sister must give one sadaqat al-fitr (charity equal to the value of sadaqat al-fitr) for every round (cycle) of the tawaf.
Note: It is permissible to give the sadaqat al-fitr in her own country, however its value is to be calculated according to the value in Makkah.
Performing a nafl tawaf without wudu necessitates the payment of sadaqat al-fitr, as Mufti Ali Asghar Sahib حفظه الله has stated:
“If someone performed Tawaf al-Wada‘, Tawaf al-Qudoom, or any nafl tawaf, whether it was completed entirely, mostly, or even partly without wudu, then in all such cases, one sadaqat al-fitr must be given for every round of the tawaf. While residing in Makkah al-Mukarramah, repeating such a tawaf is mustahab (recommended). If it is repeated, then the obligation of sadaqah is lifted.”
