QUESTION:
In Fajr, we can read the Sunnah afterwards if we’re near the end time of Fajr and it’s past the time of completion (apart from the disliked time I believe, is this correct?)
ANSWER:
1. If so little time remains for Fajr Salah that only the Fard (obligatory) prayer can be performed, then in that case only the Fard should be offered. The Sunnah of Fajr may then be performed after sunrise, once the time of zawal (zenith) has ended and before the time of Duha Kubra (the greater mid-morning period) ends — meaning before the zawal time that precedes Zuhr begins. However, it is not permissible to make up the Sunnahs of previous days; only the Sunnah of the current day may be made up in this manner as Qadha (make-up).
It is stated in Fatawa Ridawiyyah:
“If the Sunnah of Fajr alone is missed — meaning the Fard has been performed and the Sunnah remained — then its Qadha should be performed after the sun has risen high and before the Shar‘i half of the day (midday). Performing its Qadha before sunrise is prohibited and impermissible according to our noble Imams, due to the statement of the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم: لا صلاۃ بعد الصبح حتی ترتفع الشمس — ‘There is no prayer after Fajr until the sun has risen.’”
