QUESTION:
What should we recite to be safe from evil eye, hassad, and jadu specially specially while being in Pakistan and/or when we go to visit relatives please? For kids and ourselves as well.
ANSWER:
To protect oneself from Nazar-e-Bad (evil eye), the following practices can be adopted:
First Method: Recite بِسْمِ اللہِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْم seven times, Ayat-ul-Kursi once, Surah Al-Falaq three times, and Surah An-Naas three times (before Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Naas, the complete Bismillah should be recited each time). Recite Durood-e-Paak (sending blessings upon the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) once at the beginning and once at the end, and blow (do Dam) on three red chilies. Then rotate these chilies around the head of the afflicted person 21 times and throw them into the stove/fire. In shaa Allah Al-Kareem, the effect of the evil eye will be removed.
Second Method: The best practice is to recite Surah Al-Qalam, verse number 51, and blow (do Dam) after every prayer.
Third Method:
In Tafseer-e-Naeemi, Mufti Ahmad Yaar Khan Naeemi رحمہ اللہ تعالیٰ states:
“Whoever blows (does Dam) upon himself and his children by reciting Ayat-ul-Kursi every morning and evening will remain protected from Shaytan (devil), Jadu (magic), and Nazar-e-Bad (evil eye).”
(Tafseer-e-Naeemi, Volume 3, Page 42, Naeemi Kutub Khana, Gujrat)
Protection from Magic mentioned in a blessed Hadith:
Translation: Hazrat Anas bin Malik رضي الله تعالى عنه states that the Jews performed something (magic, etc.) upon the Noble Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم with the intention of causing harm, due to which the Noble Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم experienced severe pain. Then Jibraeel عليه السلام came to him with the Mu‘awwidhatayn (Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Naas), and he performed Ruqyah with them and recited:
“بِسْمِ اللہِ أَرْقِيْكَ، مِنْ كُلِّ شَیْءٍ يُّؤْذِيْكَ، مِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ وَّ نَفَسِ حَاسِدٍ، اَللہُ يَشْفِيْكَ.”
(Al-Du‘aa by Al-Tabarani, Page 335, Hadith no. 1095, Dar-ul-Kutub Al-Ilmiyyah, Beirut)
Therefore, for protection from Jadu (magic), one should maintain the habit of regularly reciting Surah Al-Falaq, Surah An-Naas, and the supplication mentioned in the blessed Hadith.
Similarly, it was the blessed practice of the Noble Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم that before sleeping at night, he would recite Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah An-Naas, blow on his hands, and then wipe them over his entire blessed body as far as his hands could reach. He would do this three times. By performing this practice regularly as well, In shaa Allah عزوجل, protection from magic will be attained.
Children who cannot perform these practices themselves should have an adult recite them and do Dam for them. Whether in Pakistan or anywhere else, these same practices should be carried out for protection from Jadu, Nazar-e-Bad, etc. These matters are true, but it is not permissible to think that a specific person has cast the evil eye or performed magic.
