Question

Is Quorn (plant-based meat) halal?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
الجواب بعون الملك الوهاب اللهم هداية الحق والصواب

Answer

The Islamic ruling of any item is based o

n its actual reality, not on its name.
According to our research, Quorn meat is not actually meat and does not contain any animal parts, rather it is made from plant and tree components. The Islamic principle regarding plant-based items is that consuming such items is Halal as long as they are not intoxicating or harmful to one’s health.
Therefore, if this plant-based ‘meat’ is not intoxicating or harmful to one’s health, it will be Halal. Until it is proven that a filthy or Haram ingredient was added to it, there is no issue in consuming it, because the default ruling of anything is that of permissibility.
On the other hand, if it is proven that any filthy or Haram ingredient was added, then consuming it would be prohibited.
