[Q709] Sa’i Before Ziyarah in Tamattu’ Hajj

Question

If a person is performing Hajj al-Tamattu’, can he perform sa’i before Tawaf al-Ziyarah?

Answer

If a person performing Hajj al-Tamattu’ wishes to perform the Sa’i of Hajj before Tawaf al-Ziyarah, it is possible. However, the method for this will be that after he dons the Ihram for Hajj, he should then perform a supererogatory Tawaf, and after this Tawaf, he should perform the Sa’i of Hajj. Now, after Tawaf al-Ziyarah, Sa’i will not be obligatory. However, the Sunnah is to perform the Sa’i of Hajj along with Tawaf al-Ziyarah.

It is stated in Fatawa Alamgiri:

وَیَفْعَلُ مَا یَفْعَلُهُ الْحَاجُّ الْمُفْرِدُ غَیْرَ أَنَّهُ لَا یَطُوفُ طَوَافَ التَّحِیَّةِ وَیَرْمُلُ فِی طَوَافِ الزِّیَارَةِ وَیَسْعَى بَعْدَهُ وَلَوْ کَانَ هَذَا الْمُتَمَتِّعُ بَعْدَ مَا أَحْرَمَ بِالْحَجِّ طَافَ طَوَافَ الْقُدُومِ وَسَعَى لَمْ یَرْمُلْ فِی طَوَافِ الزِّیَارَةِ سَوَاءٌ رَمَلَ فِی طَوَافِ الْقُدُومِ أَوْ لَمْ یَرْمُلْ وَلَا یَسْعَى بَعْدَهُ هَکَذَا فِی النِّهَایَةِ وَفَتْحِ الْقَدِیرِ.
