[Q 708] Saying Allah Uses Abusive Language

Question

What is the ruling on a person who says, “God forbid, Allah Almighty uses abusive language”?

Answer

Esteemed Teacher! Brother Aaqib said that the questioner’s intention is to quote “God Forbid” as a statement, so this answer is correct. In any case, it was finalized that the questioner’s objective is to ask for the ruling by mentioning this phrase as a statement.

Hanafi jurists have explicitly stated in reliable books that attributing any fault or deficiency to Allah عزوجل is disbelief (kufr). And to curse or insult is undoubtedly a heinous fault. Therefore, whoever says, “Allah عزوجل curses/insults,” is in fact attributing a fault and deficiency to Allah تعالیٰ, because of which repentance (tawbah), renewal of faith (tajdid-e-iman), and if married, renewal of nikah (tajdid-e-nikah) also become obligatory upon them.

It is stated in Fatawa Hindiyyah:

“يكفر اذا وصف الله تعالى بما لا يليق به، او سخر باسم من اسمائه او نسبه الى الجهل او العجز او النقص”

In response to a question regarding attributing the act of cursing/insulting to Allah عزوجل in the Holy Quran, Taj al-Shari’ah عليه الرحمه states in Fatawa Taj al-Shari’ah:
“Zayd slanders Allah تعالیٰ and is guilty of insulting God. Repentance and renewal of faith are obligatory upon him. And if he is married, renewal of nikah is also necessary, otherwise, every knowledgeable person should abandon him.”
