[Q 708] Saying Allah Uses Abusive Language

Question

What is the ruling on a person who says, “God forbid, Allah Almighty uses abusive language”?

Answer

The Fuqaha (Islamic jurists) of the Ahnaf (Hanafis) have explicitly stated in reliable books that attributing any defect or نقص (shortcoming) to Allah عزوجل is Kufr (disbelief), and giving abuse is undoubtedly a reprehensible defect. Therefore, whoever says, “Allah عزوجل gives abuse,” is in reality attributing a defect and نقص (shortcoming) to Allah Ta‘ala, due to which Tawbah (repentance), Tajdeed-e-Iman (renewal of faith), and, if married, Tajdeed-e-Nikah (renewal of marriage) are also necessary for him.

It is stated in Fatawa Hindiyyah:

“يكفر اذا وصف الله تعالى بما لا يليق به، او سخر باسم من اسمائه او نسبه الى الجهل او العجز او النقص”

In response to a question regarding attributing the act of cursing/insulting to Allah عزوجل in the Holy Quran, Taj al-Shari’ah عليه الرحمه states in Fatawa Taj al-Shari’ah:
“Zayd slanders Allah تعالیٰ and is guilty of insulting God. Repentance and renewal of faith are obligatory upon him. And if he is married, renewal of nikah is also necessary, otherwise, every knowledgeable person should abandon him.”
