[Q 676] How can we call Imam Hussain (رضی اللہ عنہ) the flower of the garden of prophecy

Question

Mera Hussain Bagh-e-Nabuwat Ka Phool Hai

Is this statement permissible?

الجواب بعون الملك الوهاب اللهم هداية الحق والصواب

Answer

The aforementioned phrase is a line of poetry, and it is permissible to say so. Here, being a “flower of the garden of prophethood” does not refer to a flower of the garden of prophets, meaning where all prophets are included. Rather, ‘prophethood’ here does not refer to prophethood itself, but specifically to the person of our Master, the Generous one ﷺ. The meaning of this line is that Imam Hussain رضي الله تعالى عنه is a flower, i.e., an individual, from the garden (meaning progeny/family) of our Master, the Generous one ﷺ.

This style is also present in the poetry of my master Imam Ahl-e-Sunnah and other great scholars:

پارَہائے صُحُف غنچہائے قُدس
اہلِ بیتِ نبوت پہ لاکھوں سلام

“Fragments of scriptures, buds of holiness,
Millions of salutations upon the Ahl al-Bayt of Prophethood.”

Mufti Ahmad Yar Khan Naeemi رحمه الله تعالى writes:

بے ُگماں شمعِ نبوت کے ہیں آئینہ چار
یعنی عثمان و عمر حیدر و اَکبر صدیق

“Undoubtedly, there are four mirrors of the lamp of prophethood,
Namely, Uthman, Umar, Haydar, and Akbar Siddiq.”

In another couplet, it is stated:

نبی کی لاڈلی ، بیوی ولی کی ، ماں شہیدوں کی
یہاں جلوہ نبوت کا ولایت کا شہادت کا

“The beloved daughter of the Prophet, wife of a Wali, mother of martyrs,
Here is the manifestation of prophethood, wilayah, and martyrdom.”

Mufti Na’eemuddin Muradabadi عليه الرحمة writes:

چہرہ میں آفتابِ نبوت کا نور تھا
آنکھوں میں شانِ صولتِ سرکارِ بوتراب

“In the face was the light of the sun of prophethood,
In the eyes, the glory of the awe of the Master Abu Turab.”
