[Q 674] Separating Children’s Beds

Question

Its a hadees mafhoom that seperate your child bed when he is 10 or 7. ( MAY BE CAN’T REMEMBER EXACT AGE)
but my question is some one says according this hadees 2 sisters or 2 brothers can also not sleep together in one bed mean share one bed if they have to then they should use separate blanket for each .
Is this correct please guide ?

Answer

In the blessed Hadith, a command has been given to separate the beds of children once they reach the age of ten years. By this, it is meant that when a boy reaches this age, he should not sleep with his mother, sister, or any other woman. Similarly, it is better that two sisters and two brothers should also not sleep together. And if there is a large bed or cot and they sleep together on it, then their blankets should be separated.

The Holy Prophet ﷺ said:

“مروا اولادكم بالصلاة وهم ابناء سبع سنين، واضربوهم عليها وهم ابناء عشر سنين، وفرقوا بينهم في المضاجع”.

“Command your children to pray when they are seven years old, and beat them (lightly) for it when they are ten years old, and separate them in their beds.”

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Kitab al-Salah, Hadith: 5274)

It is stated in Bahar-e-Shariat:

“When a boy and a girl reach the age of ten years, they should be made to sleep separately. Meaning, when a boy becomes that old, he should not sleep with his mother, sister, or any other woman; he can only sleep with his wife or bondwoman. Moreover, a boy of this age should not even sleep with other older boys or men.”
