QUESTION:
in Haram Shareef, one prayer has the reward multiplied 1000 times, so if someone prays one qaza-e-umri (missed lifetime prayer), will 1000 qaza prayers be fulfilled? Please provide an answer.
ANSWER:
In Masjid al-Ḥarām (masjid al-ḥarām – Sacred Mosque) and within the حدودِ حرم (ḥudūd al-ḥaram – sacred boundaries), the reward (sawāb – reward) of prayers and other good deeds is
indeed multiplied to one hundred thousand. However, this virtue does not in any way fulfill multiple qaḍā (qaḍā – missed/owed prayers) with a single prayer, because there is no mention of this in any narration. Rather, such a method of fulfilling qaḍā prayers is contrary to the ḥadīth (ḥadīth – prophetic tradition).
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم said:
“من نسي صلاة فليصلها إذا ذكرها، لاكفارة لها إلا ذلك”
“Whoever forgets a prayer should perform it when he remembers; there is no expiation for it except this.”
Therefore, qaḍā prayers will only be cleared from one’s responsibility by actually performing each missed prayer individually.
In Al-Ikhtiyār li Taʿlīl al-Mukhtār, it is mentioned:
“ففي الحديث النبوي، أن الحسنة فيه تضاعف إلى مائة ألف و كذلك السيئة.”
(Al-Ikhtiyār li Taʿlīl al-Mukhtār, Volume 1, Page 155, Dār al-Kutub al-ʿIlmiyyah, Beirut)
Also in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim:
”عن أنس بن مالك، أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم، قال: من نسي صلاة فليصلها إذا ذكرها، لاكفارة لها إلا ذلك“
Translation: Sayyidunā Anas ibn Mālik رضي الله تعالى عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم said: “Whoever forgets a prayer should pray it when he remembers; there is no expiation for it except that.”
