QUESTION:
Please clarify what kaffarah of yameen is for those who do not understand this.
ANSWER:
For someone who breaks a qasm (oath), it becomes wajib (obligatory) upon him to, with the intention of offering kaffarah (expiation) for the oath, either:
Free a slave,
clothe ten needy people,
Or feed them two full meals in a day.
Instead of feeding, he also has the choice to give each needy person the amount equivalent to Sadaqat al-Fitr (charitable donation given at Eid), which is:
Half a saa‘ (approximately 1.92 kg) of wheat,
One saa‘ (approximately 3.84 kg) of barley, dates, or raisins,
Or give the price of any one of these four items.
If he wants to give something else in place of these, then the value of that item must be equal to half a saa‘ of wheat or one saa‘ of dates or barley.
Also, if he wants to give it to just one needy person, then it is necessary that he gives the equivalent of one Sadaqat al-Fitr each day for ten days separately.
