[Q 464] Azan by People of Bad-Aqeedah, Ruling on Azan of Deviant Sects, How to Respond to Azan of Misguided People

QUESTION:

السلام عليكم ورحمة اللهِ وبركاته
mufit sahb what is the ruling on the azan of bad-aqida people also what should we do when we hear it

ANSWER:

Azan is among the Sha‘a’ir-e-Islam (signs of Islam). The Fuqaha (jurists) have ruled that the Azan given by a Bad-Mazhab (person of deviant sect/belief) must be repeated. Responding to such an Azan is also not obligatory. However, at the time of Azan, one should remain silent, and upon hearing the name of Allah عزوجل recite words of respect (e.g., Jalalah or Tabarak wa Ta‘ala), and upon hearing the blessed name of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم, one should recite Durood Shareef (salutations), because these sacred words—no matter whose tongue they come from—must always be respected.

(Al-Durr al-Mukhtar ma‘a Radd al-Muhtar, Vol. 01, p. 393)
