[Q460] Ruling on Bringing Children to Masjid, Permissibility of Babies in Mosque, Children’s Presence in Masjid

QUESTION:

Salaam, what size the ruling on bringing baby’s into the masjid

ANSWER:

A sensible child, such as one aged 7 years or older, who knows the method of Salah, can maintain purity, and can observe the etiquettes of the masjid, may be brought into the masjid. However, very small children from whom there is a fear of the masjid becoming impure, or whose crying and shouting may disturb the worship of other worshippers, are not permitted to be brought into the masjid.

It is narrated in Sunan Ibn Majah from Hazrat Wathilah bin Asqa’ رضي الله تعالى عنه that the Noble Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم said:

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 750, p. 117)

It is stated in Durr al-Mukhtar:

(Radd al-Muhtar ala al-Durr al-Mukhtar, vol. 2, p. 518)
