QUESTION:
When you accidentally recite the durood-e-Ibrahim in the second sitting after the tashahhud of a four-cycle prayer one should make sajdat al-ṣahw after the prayer. But what if someone adds something to the durood, like Allahumma ṣalli wa sallim 3alā sayyidinā should he still make prostration of forgetfulness or repeat the prayer?
ANSWER:
In Fard (obligatory), Sunnat Mu’akkadah (emphasized Sunnah), and Witr prayers, after reciting “عبدہ ورسولہ” in the first Tashahhud, it is Wajib (necessary) not to recite anything further and to stand up for the next rak‘ah. If a person, after “عبدہ ورسولہ”, forgetfully recited the full Durood-e-Ibrahim, or only recited “اللهم صلی علی محمد”, or “اللهم صلی علی سیدنا”, or any other Durood Shareef to that extent, then due to the delay caused in standing up for the next rak‘ah, Sajda Sahw (prostration of forgetfulness) becomes necessary.
However, if during the Qa’dah Akheerah (final sitting) one adds a few words while reciting Durood Shareef, whether deliberately or forgetfully, the Salah will be valid and neither Sajda Sahw will be necessary nor will repetition of the prayer be required.
It is mentioned in Bahar-e-Shariat regarding the Wajibat (necessities) of Salah:
“Fard, Witr, and Sunan Rawatib (regular Sunnahs), in the first Qa’dah, one should not add anything after the Tashahhud.”
(بہار شریعت، جلد 1، حصہ 3، صفحہ 518)
It further states:
“In Fard, Witr, and Sunan Rawatib prayers, if in the first Qa’dah, after the Tashahhud, one recites even this much: اللهم صلی علی محمد or اللهم صلی علی سیدنا, then if it was by mistake, Sajda Sahw is necessary; if done deliberately, repetition of the Salah is Wajib.”
