Question
If someone accidently recites Surah Al-Fatiha in Tashahud will they need to repeat their namaz or do sajda-e-sahw?
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
الجواب بعون الملك الوهاب اللهم هداية الحق والصواب
Answer
After sitting in the Qa’dah position, reciting the tashahhud first is necessary (Wajib). If this necessary (Wajib) act is forgotten, then Sajda E Sahw (prostration of forgetfulness) will become necessary. Therefore, in the mentioned scenario, if Surah Al-Fatiha was recited before reciting the tashahhud in the Qa’dah position, then Sajda E Sahw will become necessary (Wajib), and if Sajda E Sahw is not performed, then repeating the prayer will become necessary (Wajib).
It is mentioned in Fatawa Hindiyyah:
“وإذا قرأ الفاتحة مكان التشهد فعليه السهو وكذلك إذا قرأ الفاتحة ثم التشهد كان عليه السهو”
Translation: If one recites Surah Al-Fatihah instead of the tashahhud, then Sajda E Sahw becomes necessary (Wajib) for him. Similarly, if one first recites Surah Al-Fatihah and then the tashahhud, Sajda E Sahw also becomes necessary (Wajib) upon him.
