Question
Does getting an injection while fasting break the fast?

الجواب بعون الملك الوهاب اللهم هداية الحق والصواب
Answer
Getting an injection while fasting is permissible and does not break the fast, whether it is injected into a vein or into the flesh, such as the abdomen.
The reason for this is that, generally, the needle of an injection does not reach the Jauf (internal cavity, such as the stomach or its connected pathways) or the brain. Moreover, it does not create a temporary passage through which the medicine could directly enter the Jauf without passing through the skin pores. Therefore, an injection does not invalidate the fast.
It is stated in Fatawa Faiz-ur-Rasool:
“It is established that an injection does not break the fast, whether it is administered into a vein or muscle.”
(Fatawa Faiz-ur-Rasool, Vol. 1, p. 516)
