Does undergoing a blood test break the fast?

Answer

It should be noted that the fast does not become invalid if blood comes out or is drawn from the external parts of the body while fasting. Therefore, in the given case, it is permissible for a fasting person to undergo a blood test.

It is mentioned in As-Sunan Al-Kubra by Al-Bayhaqi:

“عن ابن عباس، أنه ذكر عنده الوضوء من الطعام، قال الأعمش مرة: ‌والحجامة للصائم، فقال: ‘إنما الوضوء مما يخرج وليس مما يدخل، وإنما الفطر مما دخل وليس مما خرج’ وروينا عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه قال للقيط بن صبرة: ‘وبالغ في الاستنشاق إلا أن تكون صائما'”.

In Bada’i As-Sana’i it is stated:

“قال النبي – صلى الله عليه وسلم -: الفطر ‌مما ‌يدخل، والوضوء مما يخرج”.
