[Q 582] Travelling Between Countries for Ramadan

QUESTION:

Salaam, my uncle has come from dubai, he started rozai there and now hes in UK and following us for moon sighting but then theres a potential he might be doing 31 rozai if our eid is on saturday. What should he do in this case?

ANSWER:

If a person begins fasting in one country and then travels to another country, he will follow the moon sighting of the country in which he is present and will observe Eid accordingly. Therefore, in the situation asked, it is necessary for your uncle to complete the fasts along with you, even if he ends up keeping 31 fasts, because the obligation of fasting is due to the month of Ramadan, and as long as the month of Ramadan remains, fasting is Fard (obligatory).
