[Q 725] Aqiqah Feasting & Evil Eye

Question

I hope this finds you well. A brother has the following question and would appreciate your assistance ‘ He is very wealthy and would like to feed lots of people but not sure if this is good as it can cause evil eye? He was planning on feeding thousands of people for an Aqiqah.’

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
الجواب بعون الملك الوهاب اللهم هداية الحق والصواب

Answer

In the situation inquired about, if a person wishes to feed many people on the occasion of `aqiqa for the pleasure of Allah Almighty, then this is permissible and a source of reward. This good deed should not be abandoned merely due to the fear of the evil eye. However, the objective behind this should be to attain the pleasure of Allah, not to establish one’s status in the eyes of people.

It is also possible to adopt such a method of feeding people that the name of the person providing the food is not disclosed. It can also be done that the food is delivered to people’s homes. Or, some wealth can be used to feed people, and some wealth can be used to serve religious seminaries and scholars.

It is stated in Bahare Shariat: “The animal for `aqiqa should meet the same conditions as for `qurbani. Its meat can be distributed raw among the poor, relatives, close friends, and acquaintances, or it can be cooked and served to them as a feast or invitation. All these forms are permissible.”

(Bahare Shariat, vol. 3, part 15, p. 357)
