[Q 544] Ruling on Beef Gelatin

QUESTION:

Respected scholars what is the ruling regarding beef gelatin as an ingredient

ANSWER:

If gelatin has been prepared from meat, then for it to be permissible to use, a proper verification of the meat being Halal (lawful) is necessary. Otherwise, it is not permissible to use it. This is because even the meat of a Halal (lawful) animal does not become Halal until it is established that it has been slaughtered in a Shar‘i (Islamic legal) manner; otherwise, that meat remains Haram (unlawful), and it is not permissible to use it.
