QUESTION:
“What is the reward for performing Salah in Makkah (Masjid al-Haram) and Madinah (Masjid an-Nabawi)? Also, what is the virtue and reward of praying in Masjid Quba? In addition, can you mention some authentic classical Sunni books that discuss the virtues of these holy places?”
ANSWER:
The one who performs ṣalāh in Masjid al-Ḥarām receives the reward equal to one hundred thousand prayers.
The one who performs ṣalāh in Masjid an-Nabawi receives the reward equal to one thousand prayers, and the one who performs ṣalāh in Masjid Qubā receives the reward equal to one ‘Umrah.
Thus, in the blessed ḥadīth it is stated:
(Musnad Aḥmad, Ḥadīth no. 15698)
Likewise, in another blessed ḥadīth it is stated:
(Sunan Ibn Mājah, Ḥadīth no. 1412)
For further information regarding the virtues of these sacred places, study the book of Maktaba-tul-Madinah titled “Blessing of Makkah and Madina.”
