QUESTION:
In Jamat, Imam is to say سمع اللہ لمن حمدہ And Muqtadi supposed to say اللہم ربنا ولک الحمد.
What if the Imam doesn’t know that he was not to say اللہم ربنا ولک الحمد Or he knew but thinks it’s okay for Imam to say it too. Is there anything wrong with that?
ANSWER:
In ba-jama‘at namaz (congregational prayer), for the Imam, saying “اللہم ربنا ولک الحمد” is not Sunnah; rather, the Imam should only say “سمع اللہ لمن حمدہ” aloud.
If an Imam, by mistake or intentionally, says it, then there will be no defect in the prayer.
However, he should not do this intentionally, nor should he make it a habit.
