QUESTION:
Are you drink zamzam standing or sitting up?
ANSWER:
Among the aadaab (manners) of drinking Aab-e-Zamzam (Zamzam water) is that it should be drunk while standing. Begin with بِسمِ اللهِ and after drinking say الحمدُ لله. And if one is in the blessed Haram, then while drinking Zamzam, if possible, raise your gaze towards the honoured Ka‘bah each time. Drink to your fill.
It is written in Rafeeq-ul-Haramain that one should face the Qiblah while standing and drink in three breaths, fully to the stomach. The command of Mustafa صلى الله تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم is: “The difference between us and the hypocrites is that they do not drink Zamzam to their fill.”
(Ibn Majah, Hadith 3061)
Begin with بِسمِ الله each time and after drinking say الحمدُ لله عزوجل. Each time, raise your gaze towards the honoured Ka‘bah. Pour the remaining water over the body, or wipe the face, head, and body with it — but take care that not a single drop falls onto the ground. While drinking, make dua (supplication), for it is accepted.
