[Q 274] Gold and Silver Dental Implants in today’s era

Question

Is it permissible to have a silver or gold tooth?

Answer

In today’s era, it is not permissible to have teeth made of gold or silver because, due to advancements in technology, artificial teeth and shells made from materials like ceramics and composites are more beautiful, durable, and suitable for eating and drinking, and they do not develop a bad odor. Therefore, since the need and necessity can be fulfilled by these, it is not permissible to use gold or silver for dental work.

It is stated in Fatawa Razawiyyah:

سونے کا تالو عورتوں کو مطلقاً جائزہے اور مردوں کو بضرورت یعنی جبکہ سونے میں کوئی خصوصیت محتاج الیہا ایسی ہوکہ چاندی وغیرہ سے حاصل نہ ہوسکتی ہو ورنہ دوسری دھات اختیارکریں چاندی کی حاجت ہوتو وہ ورنہ ایلومینیم یاجومناسب ہو۔

It is stated in Al Dur ul Mukhtar:

لایشد سنہ المتحرک بذھب بل بفضۃ ویتخذ انفا منہ لان الفضۃ تنتنہ.

It IS mentioned in Alhidayah:

الاصل فیہ التحریم والاباحۃ للضرورۃ وقد اندفعت بالفضۃ وھی الادنی فبقی الذھب علی التحریم والضرورۃ لم تندفع فی الانف دونہ حیث انتن
