[Q 273] Ruling on Playing Quran While Falling Asleep

Question

What is the ruling on playing the Quran whilst in bed. Is it permissible to listen to whilst one is falling asleep or not?

Answer

When the Quran is being recited, it should be listened to attentively. If you are in bed, you may listen to the recitation, but when you begin to feel sleepy, you should turn off the recitation.

It is stated in Holy Quran:

وَ اِذَا قُرِئَ الْقُرْاٰنُ فَاسْتَمِعُوْا لَهٗ وَ اَنْصِتُوْا لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُوْنَ

“When the Quran is recited, listen to it attentively and be silent, so you may be shown mercy.”

(Part 9, Surah Al Aaraf, verse 204)
