Question
I would like to know can you keep the name Aiza Fatima Amar of a child?
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
الجواب بعون الملك الوهاب اللهم هداية الحق والصواب
Answer
The name “عائزہ” (with ‘Zaa’) originates from feminine Ism e Fa’il (مؤنث اسم فاعل) and its form indicates a “needy and unsuccessful woman”. Therefore, it is not appropriate to name a girl “عائزہ” as it’s prohibited to keep names with negative meanings. However, naming with “عائذہ” (with ‘Zaal’) is appropriate as it means “one who takes refuge” or “one who seeks protection”. It’s better to name girls after the female companions and saints so that they might benefit from their blessings. This is because there’s encouragement in the Hadith to keep names after pious individuals.
