[Q 245] Ruling on Accepting Money from Alcohol Business

My father in law gave me deposit for a property to get on mortgage but he had alcohol shops in the past and profited from them is the money haram or what’s the ruling?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

الجواب بعون الملك الوهاب اللهم هداية الحق والصواب

If you know that the money he gave you is exactly from a haram source, such as the profit from selling alcohol, then it is not permissible to accept or use this money in any way.

However, if you do not know whether this money is specifically from that source or from another, meaning it could also be from legitimate sources, then according to Shariah, you are permitted to take this money and use it for lawful purposes.
