Question
In regards to Zakaat, what would be the ruling on kids’ savings? If a parent has opened an account for a child for their future benefit and is putting money in monthly via standing order for them & also putting kids’ birthday and eid money given to the children into the account etc., so the money is intentioned for the child when they’re old enough to make use of it.
What is the ruling? Would the parent include the amounts in their calculation for zakaat? As the children are na balik. Jzk

الجواب بعون الملك الوهاب اللهم هداية الحق والصواب
Answer
The amount that parents transfer out of their possession and into the ownership of their child does not oblige the parents to pay Zakat on it. Also, Zakat is not obligatory on this amount for the child either, as one of the fundamental conditions for Zakat to be obligatory is reaching puberty(بلوغت). Therefore, in the mentioned case, the Zakat on the money held in the account of a child is not obligatory on either the child or the parents.
However, once the child reaches adulthood and meets the conditions, then the Zakat becomes obligatory.
Note: At the end of the question, “jzk” is written instead of “جزاک اللہ”. “jzk” is a meaningless word. Instead, write the words of dua in your own language or write “جزاک اللہ” properly.
