[Q 176] Ruling on Wearing Gold-Colored & Plated Watches for Men

Question

Is it permissible for men to have a watch that is gold in colour (painted or sprayed) but is not the actual metal gold?

Are gold plated watches permissible for men (a very thin layer of gold on top of steel or silver)?

Answer

It is permissible to wear a gold colored metal watch. However, some scholars forbid it, so it is better to avoid it.

And if the thin layer of gold is plated on top of the metal, which is also possible to separate from this metal, then it is not permissible for men to wear such a watch.
