Question
If I have a possession that I had bought, if my dad volunteers to repair it, is he allowed to keep it or is that considered haram?
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
الجواب بعون الملك الوهاب اللهم هداية الحق والصواب
Answer
If you bought that item with your own money and you did not make your father the owner of that item and the father has only repaired that item voluntarily, then that item belongs to you and does not belong to the father.
So your father can not keep the item without you giving it to him.
However, if the father wants possession of the item, then an obedient/good fortune son should happily give it and make his father happy because whatever blessings we got are due to him.
It has been mentioned in a hadīth: “انت ومالك لابيك” meaning “You and your wealth belong to your father”.
