Question
Is Milad permissible? Did the Prophet or Sahaba or Tabaeen even do it? Is it a rewardable action?

الجواب بعون الملك الوهاب اللهم هداية الحق والصواب
Answer
Celebrating the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم is entirely permissible and indeed a good and commendable act. If someone holds a gathering for Mawlid Pak (میلاد پاک – Celebration of the Prophet’s birth صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) with good intentions or presents a gift of reward in the court of the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم in any way on this day, it will be considered a pious and fine act on his part.
The criterion for something being permissible or impermissible is not whether the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم or the Sahabah (companions) and Tabi’een (followers of the companions) did it or not, but the standard is whether the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم prohibited this act or not. If the Prophet (peace be upon him) has forbidden an act, then it is forbidden in Shariah, otherwise not.
