[Q 120] Ruling on Playing Violent Video Games

Question

What about games like Fortnite, call off duty, etc., on consoles that a lot of the kids play. Is it permissible to play these games?

Answer

One should not play video games like Fortnite, Call of Duty, etc. Generally, such games contain music or obscene scenes, which are not permissible. Even if not, wasting time in them is also common, which our religion Islam dislikes. It also happens that those who become addicted often neglect other duties such as prayer or congregation, and even disobey parents when asked to do something.
