Answer
Whether the wife is old or young, disobedient or obedient, giving her three divorces at once is a sin. Therefore, in the situation asked, if the marriage does not work out and she is not willing to live together, the best way of talaq (divorce)is that the husband should give her one divorce and leave her until her waiting period (‘iddah’) is over and she is out of the marriage.
If a 64 year old woman’s menstrual periods have stopped, her ‘iddah’ is three months. Otherwise it is three menstrual cycles.
