Question

When calculating zakat on business stock, is it necessary to take out the costs first? E.g if selling an item through an online shop for £3.99 but to deliver to the customer will cost me £1.15, do I pay zakat on the full £3.99 or minus my delivery cost first?

Answer

When zakat is calculated on business stock, it is not necessary to calculate the value of each item separately, rather the method of paying zakat is that when the year of zakat is completed, at that time whatever in stock is available, zakat has to be paid according to its market value.
