Property and Zakat Eligibility

Question

Do we count property to see if someone is eligible to give/take zakat? I thought (because of little knowledge) we only use cash in hand/extra money, shares/investments to see if someone’s wealth is above nisab. 

Answer

We do count extra property to check the eligibility of taking zakat. The property which is under one’s need is not counted e.g House or the shop where he works etc.
