Question
Some people put money into committees and after a month or so they get that money back. Is Zakat payable on the money received from the committee?
Answer
The money that you initially put into the committee is your own wealth being deposited. If during this period your turn for receiving the committee hasn’t come and your Zakat lunar year completes then you will be liable to pay Zakat on the money you have deposited (but you have option to delay until receive that money)
If on the other hand your turn for receiving the committee has come and you still have remaining instalments to deposit into the committee you can deduct those instalments and you will have to pay Zakat on the remainder of the wealth which you have.
