Using the things & medicines which contain alcohol

Question

A hair spray contains Ethyl Alcohol. Is it permissible to use this spray?

Answer

Yes it is permissible to use it on one’s hair even though it contains alcohol. And the same ruling is for any perfume, spray, gel, cream or lotion and all things which contain alcohol but are used externally i.e. applied on the body or clothing or anything else. This permission is due to Umoom-e-Balwa (عمومِ بلوی).

Remember some of scholars don’t give permission to use these things so when there is no need it is better to avoid using such things.

Note: All medicines which contain alcohol are also permissible according to the majority of Ulama and Scholars.
